Tonda Gentile Romana

The Tonda Gentile Romana variety is most common in Lazio / Italy, a tree of medium height, medium growth strength, a medium round kernel (1.4 g), a nut mass of 2.70 g, a high yield of kernel (45%).

Tonda Romana - an Italian variety of ancient origin, is the main variety of walnut orchards in the province of Viterbo (north of Rome). The husk is slightly longer than the nut; most nuts do not contain husks.

The hazelnut variety Tonda Romana is resistant to kidney mites. Male and female flowering occurs in the middle of the season. Suitable pollinators are Lansing, Tonda di Giffoni, Nocchione, Mortarella and Merveille de Bollwiller.

Tonda Romana has a moderate and high productivity. Nuts are medium and small in size, rounded, with a dull light brown shell, giving 44-48% of the kernel yield. The nuclei are round, usually do not contain fiber and are poorly blanched.

This is one of the best hazelnut confectionery varieties grown in Italy due to its strong nutty flavor.
